Hello readers! As you may have guessed from the title, I am going to show you how to create a fun New Year’s look with a dash of color! Let’s get started.
The first thing to do is prime your face and eyelids. I used a redness correction primer from L’Oreal mixed with some of That Gal primer by Benefit. I used the Lorac eyelid primer for my eyes, obviously! Then, start to softly blend a warm medium brown shade into the crease. This will work as a transition color for our darker colors to come!
I also placed pieces of tape on the sides of my eye to help me achieve the cut crease, Make sure you get some of the stickiness off by placing the tape on your CLEAN hand before placing on your eyes.
After you are happy with your warm brown shade, start to bring in some darker gunmetal shades, I even used some deep plums. Once the crease is set, time for the eyelids. Pack a white eyeshadow thickly onto the eyelid, brow bone, and in the inner corners. Just because it is dramatic doesn’t mean you have to go for blacks.
Top Tip: When in doubt blend it out. If you make a mistake, just blend, you can always add more, but it is difficult to take product back.
Now, add the glitter! I used the Wet n Wild Color Icon glitter single in the shade “spiked.” Personally, I would not recommend this product. I found it to be very sticky and difficult to work with. Also, when I opened my eyes it would smudge, EVERY TIME! Although it was only $0.93, I would NOT repurchase. If you have any recommendations for glitters, please let me know!
Now, enough negativity! Onto my favorite part! I first added white eyeliner to my waterline, white eyeshadow on the inner third of lower lashline, and the shade GOLD from the Lorac palette. Then, grab any ELECTRIC BLUE eyeliner and do a gentle wing. Keep perfecting that eyeliner until you are happy with the pigmentation. Mine ended up like this.
For my skin, I used the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation in ivory, the Collection 2000 concealer to conceal redness or darkness, and the Benefit concealer and highlighter duo as a cream base for my powder highlight and contour. For my contour I used NYC bronzer in “Sunny,” NYX blush in “Pinched,” and MAC MSF in Soft&Gentle. Then add your favorite mascara! I used the new Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara, which I LOVE! It is such a great mascara, and the packaging is so soft and feminine, I totally dig it.
The first lip option is Maybelline Fifth Avenue Fuchsia. I love this lipstick so much, it just speaks to me!
Option numero dos! This is a Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick in 09. This is definitely a more sophisticated option, in my opinion. I always feel so prim and proper when I wear red toned shades!
Of course, how could I EVER leave out Chatterbox from MAC, if you follow me on twitter or instagram, you would know that it my opinion this lipstick is a literal godsend. I think this might be my fave, shhh don’t tell the others!
Option number four, this is definitely a bit on the dramatic side! I know this is not everyone’s cup of tea, but personally I think it looks super interesting. This is the Revlon Colorburst Matte balm in “Shameless.”
The final option! I first took some Rosebud lip salve and my Touch Eclat mixed with a Revlon lip butter in “Strawberry Shortcake” to create a pretty pinky nude shade. Then, I took the same glitter I used on my eyelids and placed it all over the lips! Obviously, you don’t have to add the glitter, I just thought it was a fresh, flirty touch!
Once again, I was disappointed that I didn’t have a better glitter to use, *sigh*, but I think with a nice pigmented silver glitter, this would look amazing! Especially in photos!
